In your own sauna you can switch off, relax and unwind. You also allow your body to relax, recover and regenerate. Saunas have many positive properties for the body and mind and are becoming increasingly popular.

Whether you are a professional or a beginner, if you have ever been in a sauna, you will certainly know that the natural material wood is an indispensable part of sauna construction, as the raw material ensures a pleasant and gentle indoor climate.

But which wood can you use?

We have summarized it for you so that you can set up your sauna individually and uniquely.

The Queen of the Alps - the Swiss stone pine

Our Swiss stone pine, whether chopped or smooth, is particularly suitable for expanding your sauna. It is not called the Queen of the Alps for nothing, because it is one of the finest and most valuable woods that the Alpine region has to offer. Its pleasant and aromatic smell is another plus point why it is often used in the sauna.

Come to the dark side - the Thermo Spruce

Due to its treatment, thermo-treated spruce is one of the darker woods and therefore looks particularly elegant. Thanks to the heat treatment, thermo-treated spruce reacts very calmly to the humidity in the sauna and is therefore particularly hard-wearing.

Nature as far as the eye can see - the spruce

The chopped spruce brings nature into your sauna and spreads a particularly pleasant and natural smell. A light, beautiful wood that darkens slightly over time and gives your sauna a particularly elegant touch.

Balm for the soul - the larch

Larch wood is considered to be particularly robust and is one of the hardest types of wood. It is also far superior to its counterparts in terms of durability. In combination with heat, larch can produce more resin, but this is not a disadvantage, because the larch resin provides a particularly fruity and pleasant smell and is simply good for the soul.

For that special flair - the oak

Away from the mainstream, oak creates a unique ambience in the sauna. A darker wood with a strong character as an eye-catcher for your wellness area. Oak absorbs heat particularly well and becomes very warm, which is why we love oak in the sauna, especially in winter when it's really cold outside.

Are there any types of wood that are not suitable for a sauna?

Yes, there are! They look great as wall units or ceiling panels, but we can't recommend them for building a sauna. These include steamed spruce, as well as the matching squared timber, the reclaimed wood and the pine carbon. These will be used in another project.

And for sitting?

To make sure you are comfortable, you will of course also need the right wood for your seating and lying areas. Our Abachi wood, thermo-spruce, thermo-ash or Swiss stone pine are particularly suitable for this (but please not the chopped ones, they prick!).
